Work With Your Body, Not Against It

Acupuncture has been used for over 3000 years to help people manage chronic pain, improve well-being, and live a more balanced life. While the practice has changed over the centuries, many principles of this traditional Chinese treatment remain the same.

We are proud to partner with licensed acupuncturist Dr. Danielle M. Solomon to bring this time-honored tradition to our dental office to help our patients reduce anxiety. This allows them to receive the care they need to reach their health goals.

If you suffer from dental anxiety or want to learn more about our holistic approach to dental care, contact us today to schedule your appointment.

What Is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is an alternative medicine designed to stimulate certain parts of your body, reducing anxiety and promoting the body's natural healing process. It uses thin needles strategically inserted into the body to encourage relaxation and relieve pain. This makes it an excellent alternative to medication for pain management and anxiety reduction. It can also be combined with other treatments, including physical therapy and medication.

The World Health Organization and National Institute for Health recognize acupuncture method of treatment for a variety of medical conditions:

  • Musculo-skeletal: back and neck pain, arthritis, carpel tunnel, trauma
  • Gynecological disorders: PMS, infertility, menopausal symptoms
  • Respiratory disorders: allergies, asthma, flu, colds
  • Digestive and urogenital disorders: indigestion, bloating, ulcer, UTI
  • Ear, nose, and throat: headache, migraine, vertigo, TMJ
  • Emotional and psychological: stress, depression, anxiety, addiction
  • Acupuncture face lift: revitalizes the skin, reducing the appearance of wrinkles and effects of premature aging
  • Dental discomfort: pre and post operative discomfort, anxiety, stress, TMJ

The philosophy of Chinese Medicine is based on the flow of “Qi” (energy) through 12 major meridians throughout the body. When this energy becomes blocked or stagnant in our body, imbalances arise that may lead to disease. By targeting various acupuncture points that stimulate the central nervous system, optimal functioning can be restored and maintained.

Traditional Chinese Medicine has one of the oldest and most complex understandings of herbal formulas in recorded history. Herbs can treat acute disorders such as cold or flu, as well as chronic conditions like allergies or viral disorders.

Traditional Chinese Medicine treats a wide variety a conditions including:

  • Neck and back pain
  • Arthritis
  • Sciatica
  • Fibromyalgia
  • PMS
  • Endometriosis
  • Menopausal symptoms
  • Allergies
  • Cold and flu
  • Asthma
  • Headaches and migraines
  • Stress and anxiety
  • Depression
  • Insomnia
  • Am I a Good Candidate for Acupuncture?

The best candidates for acupuncture are people experiencing issues like musculoskeletal problems, nausea, and depression. Candidates must not have any bleeding disorders like hemophilia A, hemophilia B, and von Willebrand disease. Avoiding acupuncture is especially critical for hemophilia patients due to the prolonged bleeding risk it may cause.

Since acupuncture involves using thin needles that are inserted into the body’s pressure points, common side effects such as minor bleeding and soreness may occur.

Bleeding and bruising are heavier for a longer period for those who take blood thinners, have skin disorders or diseases, or are pregnant. For people with a cardiac pacemaker, infusion pump, or any other electrical device, electroacupuncture is highly discouraged to prevent device malfunction.

  • Your Acupuncture Consultation

During a consultation, our acupuncturists will have an in-depth conversation with you about all of your health concerns. Provide your complete medical history to help our experts determine which pressure points should be targeted for the treatment.

Unlike Western medicine, an acupuncture consultation will include observing pulse quality through tongue and pulse examination. The pulses will be felt in three different positions to provide insight on how well your organs are functioning. Observing the tongue and skin complexion also provides insight on imbalances within your organs.

  • Your Acupuncture Session

An acupuncture session will take up to 60 minutes depending on the condition being treated. After an overview of your diagnosis, you will be asked to lie down and relax.

Acupuncture needles are as thin as a single hair and vary in length. When they puncture the skin, it typically does not create enough of a sensation to be noticeable. Because of this, the experience is not at all similar to an injection. A mild tingling sensation is felt during treatment, which can cause patients to fall asleep.

  • Cost of Acupuncture

Acupuncture prices for procedures at Tribeca Smiles servicing New York, Tribeca, Manhattan, and Queens are estimates only. Dr. Solomon will determine the price during your consultation and will be affected by the recommended dental technique, patient anatomy, time, and implant type (If applicable). Contact us for a free consultation and more information.

Dr. Solomon is an incredible dentist! He is thorough, attentive, confident and strives for excellence. The staff is kind and efficient. I've been looking for a new dentist for a couple of years now and I am glad I googled "Best Dentist in Tribeca" and found him. He re-did my crown beautifully.

★★★★★

Had the absolute best experience with Dr. Solomon, his staff, and his sweet dog Merlin. They took great care of me and helped me make sure my insurance would cover the work I needed done. On top of that, they made me feel so comfortable which is hard to do at a dentist office—it felt like a spa day. I also thought I would have to make a separate appointment to get my chipped tooth fixed but they did it right then and there. I will definitely be back!
